What it does
POSolid runs entirely in a web browser, so it works on almost any device you already own — a phone, a tablet, a laptop, or a desktop. There's nothing to buy from an app store and no special till hardware required. This page lists the devices, browsers, and helper apps POSolid supports.
Devices
- Android phones and tablets
- iPhone and iPad
- Windows laptops and desktops
- Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Linux computers
- Chromebooks
Any reasonably modern device from roughly the last few years will run POSolid comfortably. A tablet or a small all-in-one touchscreen makes a great till.
Browsers
Use an up-to-date version of any major browser:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Microsoft Edge (recommended)
- Safari (recommended on iPhone / iPad / Mac)
- Firefox
For the best experience, keep your browser updated to its latest version.
Getting started
- Open your organization's POSolid web address in the browser on the device you want to use.
- Optionally install POSolid as an app so it opens full-screen from your home screen or dock — see Install the App.
Key things to know
- It's a cloud app, so you need an internet connection. POSolid talks to your account over the internet. A stable Wi-Fi or mobile connection is required during service.
- Install it as an app for daily use. On any supported device you can add POSolid to your home screen or desktop and run it full-screen — see Install the App.
- Secondary screens work too. The Kitchen Display, Customer Display Board, and reports open in a browser on any spare screen, tablet, or TV with a browser.
- Printers connect through the Print Agent. Physical printers don't connect to the browser directly. A small free helper app — the Print Agent — runs on a device at your venue and talks to your printers. It's available for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon), macOS (Intel), and Android. See Printing for setup.
- No app store download for POSolid itself. POSolid is a web app; only the optional Print Agent is a separate download.
FAQ
Q: Do I need a special POS terminal or till hardware?
A: No. POSolid runs in the browser on ordinary phones, tablets, and computers. A tablet you already own works perfectly as a till.
Q: Which browser should I use?
A: Any modern browser works. We recommend Chrome or Edge on computers and Android, and Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Keep it updated.
Q: Does POSolid work offline?
A: POSolid is a cloud app and needs an internet connection to sign in, take orders, and sync. Keep a stable connection during service.
Q: Can I run the till on one device and the kitchen screen on another?
A: Yes. Each device signs in to the same organization in its own browser — for example a tablet at the till and a separate screen in the kitchen for the Kitchen Display.
Q: What do I install to connect a printer?
A: The Print Agent, a small free helper app available for Windows, macOS, and Android. See Printing for the full setup steps.
