Notifications

What it does

Notifications tell your team about the things that need someone's attention right now — a dish the kitchen can't make, an order that landed from a delivery platform, a kitchen printer that has gone quiet, a guest who never turned up. A bell in the top bar shows a live count, and the Notifications page lists everything waiting. You decide which events raise a notification and who hears about each one, on Settings → Notifications.

Getting started

  1. Watch the bell in the top bar (and the badge in the side menu). A number appears as soon as something needs attention.
  2. Click the bell, or open Notifications from the side menu, to see the full list, newest first.
  3. Each entry says what happened and what it's about — the dish and order number for a kitchen problem, the platform name for a delivery problem.
  4. Use the action button on an entry to jump straight to the screen where you deal with it: the till for an order line, the delivery queue for a platform order, printer settings for a printer that failed.
  5. Once you've handled it, dismiss the entry with the trash icon and confirm. It disappears and the count goes down.

Choosing who gets what

  1. Open Settings → Notifications.
  2. Events are grouped by area — Orders, Kitchen, Delivery platforms, Stock, Reservations, Staff and shifts, Security.
  3. For each event, tick In app, Phone, or both. Clearing both switches the event off entirely; the row dims and shows Off.
  4. Under Goes to, pick the roles that should hear it. On a few events you can also pick Whoever took the order.
  5. Press Save. Rules apply to the whole venue, not just to you.

Key things to know

  • Routing is per event, not per person. A rule says "this event goes to these roles", so everyone holding a role hears the same things. There is no separate per-person setting.
  • It works correctly before you open the page. Every event ships with a sensible default — a dish running out goes to whoever sells and whoever buys stock; a device waiting for approval goes to whoever manages devices. A row still routed that way carries a Default badge. The badge disappears once you change who hears it or how, which is the only thing it is telling you.
  • Off means no channel. There is no separate on/off switch beside the two channels — clearing both is off, and a row in that state is dimmed and labelled so you can see at a glance which events are silent.
  • "Whoever took the order" is only offered where it makes sense. An order from the QR menu, a platform refusing requests or a no-show has no cashier behind it, so those events only offer roles. Where it is offered, that person gets the notification on top of whichever roles you picked, and still only sees one card if they also hold one of those roles.
  • Phone delivery is not switched on yet. The Phone column saves normally — the rules are yours and they are kept — but notifications only start arriving on phones once sending is configured. The page says so at the top while that is the case.
  • Only someone who can edit settings can change the rules. Staff who can view settings see the table read-only; everyone else doesn't see the page at all.
  • New notifications appear instantly while you're using the app — no refreshing. If the connection drops (screen lock, wifi hiccup, backgrounded tab) the app reconnects and corrects the count by itself.
  • Some notifications clear themselves. If the kitchen resumes work on a rejected dish, or the order is completed or cancelled, the related notification goes away on its own, badge included.
  • The ready-by reminder does not. It stays until you dismiss it by hand — it is meant to nag.
  • You never get two cards for one thing. If the same event arrives twice, or a dish is rejected and then marked ready, that's still one entry per person.
  • Dismissing always asks for confirmation, so a mis-tap can't lose one.

FAQ

Q: What kinds of things trigger a notification?
A: Thirteen events at the moment: a dish ready, rejected, or close to its ready-by time; an order from the QR menu; a delivery order received, one that failed to reach the till, and a platform refusing requests; a kitchen ticket or a fiscal receipt that didn't print; a device waiting for approval; a new staff member waiting for access; a dish that has run out of stock; and a reservation no-show. Settings → Notifications lists them all with a one-line explanation of each.

Q: Can I see notifications for orders my coworkers took?
A: Yes, if the rule says so. Open Settings → Notifications and add your role under Goes to for that event. Several events go to roles by default already.

Q: I only want the kitchen to hear about kitchen problems. Can I do that?
A: Yes — that is exactly what the Goes to column is for. Pick the roles for each event separately.

Q: How do I switch an event off completely?
A: Untick both In app and Phone. The row dims and shows Off, and nobody is notified about it.

Q: What does the "Default" badge mean?
A: That the event is still routed the way POSolid ships it — you haven't changed anything about that row. It is not a warning, and it disappears as soon as you change who hears the event or how it arrives.

Q: Why did the "Default" badge disappear from a row I never touched?
A: It shouldn't. The badge is worked out by comparing the row against the shipped default, so saving the page without editing anything leaves it in place. If one vanished, something on that row did change — check its roles and channels.

Q: I ticked Phone but nothing arrives on my phone. Why?
A: Sending to phones isn't switched on yet. Your rule is saved and will be used as soon as it is; the banner at the top of the settings page says so while that's the case.

Q: Why did a notification disappear on its own?
A: Rejected and ready notifications clear automatically once the situation moves on — the kitchen resumes work, the dish is delivered, or the order is completed or cancelled. You don't need to dismiss those.

Q: Why is one still showing even though I handled it?
A: The ready-by reminder doesn't clear itself. Dismiss it with the trash icon once you've acted on it.

Q: Will changing a rule affect other staff?
A: Yes. Rules belong to the venue, not to the person editing them — that's what makes "the kitchen hears this, the floor hears that" possible.

Q: The badge count looks wrong — what should I do?
A: If the connection was interrupted, the app catches up and corrects it on reconnect. If it still looks off after that, refresh the page.

Q: Can I accidentally delete a notification?
A: No — dismissing always asks you to confirm first.
