What it does

A fiscal printer prints legally-required fiscal receipts and records sales for the tax authorities.

This page covers Poland. Fiscal rules are set country by country, so POSolid's fiscal support is built one country at a time, and Poland is the country supported today: paid orders produce a proper fiscal receipt and you can print the required daily report. How they connect

Like all printers, a fiscal printer connects through the Print Agent (the small helper app that runs on a device at your venue), not directly to the browser. Supported connections are:

Network (TCP/IP) — the printer has its own IP address on your local network. This covers both a cable (Ethernet) and Wi-Fi — either way POSolid reaches the printer by its IP address.
Serial (COM port) — connected by serial cable, with a baud rate
USB — connected to the computer running the Print Agent

About Wi-Fi. If your fiscal printer has a built-in Wi-Fi module (or a small Wi-Fi/Ethernet adapter), join it to your venue's Wi-Fi, note the IP address it receives, and add it in POSolid as a Network (TCP/IP) printer. Wi-Fi is only how the printer reaches the network — to POSolid it's simply a network printer. The one requirement is that the printer and the device running the Print Agent are on the same local network.

How a real venue is set up

This is what the equipment looks like in practice, and what talks to what.

How the connections are built

Staff devices talk to POSolid over the internet. Every tablet, phone or PC opens POSolid in a browser and reaches our servers through your router. They never talk to a printer directly — this is why nothing needs installing on staff devices.
The Print Agent talks to POSolid over the internet too, outbound only. The main device runs the Print Agent, which checks in with POSolid and collects print jobs as they appear. Because it only makes outgoing connections, you don't need a fixed public IP address, port forwarding, or any change to your router's firewall.
The Print Agent talks to the printers on the local network, or by cable. Once it has a job, the agent sends it either over the local network to the printer's IP address (reached by Wi-Fi or Ethernet), or straight down a USB or serial cable from the main device.

So a fiscal receipt travels: cashier's tablet → POSolid → Print Agent on the main device → fiscal printer. The only two things that must share the same local network are the Print Agent device and any network or Wi-Fi printers. Everything else just needs internet.

Practical rules of thumb

One Print Agent per venue is normally enough. A single agent can drive the fiscal printer and every thermal printer at the same time.
Give network printers a fixed address. Reserve their IP on the router (a "DHCP reservation"). If a printer's address changes after a power cut, POSolid ends up pointing at the wrong one.
Keep the main device plugged in and awake. If it sleeps or shuts down, printing pauses — jobs queue and print once it's back.
Don't put printers on an isolated guest Wi-Fi. Guest networks usually stop devices from talking to each other, which blocks the Print Agent from reaching the printer.
Prefer a cable for anything that never moves. Ethernet is steadier than Wi-Fi for a printer sitting permanently at the till or in the kitchen; use Wi-Fi where running a cable isn't practical.
Losing a connection doesn't lose a job. If the internet drops, new jobs stop arriving; if the local Wi-Fi drops, the agent can't reach network printers. Either way the queue survives and prints once the connection is back.

Getting started

Make sure your Print Agent is installed and shows Connected (see Printing).
Go to Settings → Printers and add a printer.
Turn on the fiscal option, then pick your printer's brand (Posnet, Novitus, or Elzab).
Choose how it's connected (network, serial, or USB) and fill in the details — an IP address and port for network (whether the printer is on Wi-Fi or a cable), or the COM port and baud rate for serial.
Save. Paid orders will now print a fiscal receipt, and you can close the fiscal day from the register.

Key things to know

Fiscal printing is available for Poland today. The fiscal option appears only for organizations set to a country POSolid supports fiscally — currently Poland. If your country isn't there yet, see Fiscal Printers in Other Countries.
The Print Agent must be online. A fiscal receipt (and the daily report) can only print when the Print Agent connected to the printer is running and online.
Daily fiscal report is required. Polish law requires closing the fiscal day with a daily report. POSolid reminds you and provides a button to print it — see Printing for details.
One fiscal printer per venue is typical. You set which printer is the fiscal receipt printer; thermal printers can still be used separately for kitchen tickets and guest pre-checks.
Wi-Fi counts as a network connection. A Wi-Fi fiscal printer is set up exactly like a cabled one — by IP address, as a Network (TCP/IP) printer. Give it a fixed address on your router so it doesn't change.

Q: Do I need to open ports on my router or get a fixed internet address?
A: No. The Print Agent only makes outgoing connections to POSolid, so no port forwarding, static public IP, or firewall change is needed.

Q: Does the printer itself need internet access?
A: No. The printer only needs to be reachable on your local network by the device running the Print Agent. The internet connection is used by POSolid and the Print Agent, not by the printer.

Q: What happens if the printer or Print Agent is offline?
A: Fiscal receipts and the daily report can't print until the Print Agent connected to the fiscal printer is back online. Get it reconnected before taking payments.

Q: Do I still need the daily report?
A: Yes. Closing the fiscal day with a daily report is required by law in Poland. POSolid reminds you and gives you a one-click way to print it — see Printing.
