Signing In & Sessions

What it does

This covers how staying signed in works day to day: how the app keeps you logged in, why the screen locks itself automatically when nobody's using it, how a quick PIN gets you back in, and why you land back on the same screen you were working on.

Getting started

  1. Sign in once with your credentials — or, on a shared terminal that already knows you, with your Staff ID and PIN.
  2. Keep working — the app keeps you signed in in the background, so you don't need to log in again for every action.
  3. If the screen has been idle for a while, it locks itself and shows a PIN entry (or the login screen, if you don't have a PIN set).
  4. Enter your PIN to unlock — you're taken straight back to the screen you were on before it locked.

Key things to know

  • Automatic screen lock — if a device sits idle for too long, it locks itself for security. This is especially useful on shared terminals at the counter or in the kitchen.
  • Signing in with a PIN uses your Staff ID — the PIN sign-in screen asks for your Staff ID (a short code, not a name you pick from a list) followed by your PIN. Your Staff ID is shown on your Profile page next to your name; a manager can also find it for anyone in the staff list (Staff & Roles). See Quick Access with a PIN for how to set this up.
  • PIN unlock — if you have a PIN set up, unlocking after a lock just takes your PIN, not your full password. If you don't have a PIN, you'll need to sign in again with your normal credentials.
  • You're returned to where you left off — after unlocking, reloading the page, or reopening the app, you land back on the same screen instead of the workspace home. An order you were working on stays open.
  • Locking is safe for open orders — if you (or a manager) lock the screen manually, or it locks itself, any order in progress is preserved and waiting for you when you unlock.
  • You may occasionally be asked to sign in again — this can happen if your session has been inactive for a very long time, if you locked out without a PIN, or if you're signing in fresh on a new device. This is normal and just means the app couldn't safely resume your previous session.
  • Shared terminals are handled per person — if a terminal was locked by one staff member and a different person unlocks it with their own PIN, they're taken to their own last screen, not the previous person's.

FAQ

Q: What do I enter on the PIN sign-in screen?
A: Your Staff ID first, then your 4-digit PIN — there's no name to choose from a list. Your Staff ID is on your Profile page next to your name (a manager can also look it up in Staff & Roles).

Q: Why did my screen suddenly show a PIN prompt?
A: The device was idle for a while and locked itself automatically for security. Enter your PIN to continue exactly where you left off.

Q: I don't have a PIN — what happens when the screen locks?
A: You'll see the regular sign-in screen instead of a PIN prompt, and you'll need to enter your username and password again.

Q: If I reload the page or the app restarts, do I lose my place?
A: No. As long as your session is still valid, reloading or reopening the app takes you back to the screen you were using.

Q: Does locking the screen cancel an order I was working on?
A: No. Locking (automatic or manual) does not close or discard any order in progress. It's waiting for you after you unlock.

Q: Why am I sometimes asked to log in fully instead of just unlocking with a PIN?
A: This happens if your session has expired, if you don't have a PIN set, or if it's your first time signing in on that device. A full sign-in restores your session normally.
