Customer Display Board

What it does

The Customer Display Board is a public, read-only screen you put on a TV or a second monitor facing your customers. It shows order numbers grouped into "In Progress" and "Ready" so customers can see the status of their order without asking staff. It's meant to run unattended once it's set up — it updates by itself the moment an order's status changes, right alongside the kitchen screen.

Getting started

  1. Open the display page on the TV or screen you want to use (a browser in full-screen/kiosk mode works well, or a dedicated TV app if your screen supports one).
  2. The screen will show a QR code and a "waiting for authorization" message — this is normal, it's not connected to your venue yet.
  3. Using a phone or tablet that's already logged into POSolid, scan the QR code. You'll be taken to a confirmation screen — tap Authorize to pair the TV with your venue.
  4. The TV switches to the live board automatically within a couple of seconds, no need to touch it again.
  5. To change how the board looks, tap anywhere on the screen to open the display settings — pick a font size, a tile style, and light or dark theme. These preferences are remembered on that screen.
  6. Leave the screen running — new orders appear and move between columns on their own as your team works on them in the kitchen.

Key things to know

  • The board only shows order numbers (and, depending on the tile style you pick, the table name, item count, or elapsed time) — no item names, prices, or customer details. It's meant to be safe to show in a public dining area.
  • "In Progress" lists every order that has at least one item still being prepared; "Ready" lists orders where every item is ready for pickup or serving. An order disappears from the board once it's fully delivered or cancelled.
  • The board updates instantly when something changes in the kitchen — you don't need to refresh it. As a safety net, it also does a quiet background refresh about once a minute in case a live update is missed.
  • Nobody needs to be logged in to view the board — once it's paired, anyone looking at the screen (customers included) sees the same live status.
  • If the TV browser is reloaded or restarted, it forgets the pairing and shows the QR code again — someone will need to scan and authorize it once more. Try to avoid reloading the page once it's set up.
  • The display settings (font size, tile style, theme) are saved per screen, not per venue — if you set up more than one display, you'll choose the look for each one separately.
  • Any staff member who's logged into POSolid on their phone can scan the code and pair a new display — there's no separate setup step required from a manager.

FAQ

Q: Do customers need to log in or do anything to see the board?
A: No. Once the screen is paired, it's a plain public display — anyone looking at it sees live order status automatically.

Q: What's the difference between "In Progress" and "Ready"?
A: In Progress is every order that still has at least one item being prepared. Ready is orders where everything is done and waiting to be picked up or served. An order moves itself between the two as the kitchen works on it.

Q: The screen is stuck showing a QR code — what do I do?
A: Scan it with a phone that's logged into POSolid and tap Authorize. This happens the first time you set up a display, and again any time the screen's browser is reloaded or restarted.

Q: Can I use more than one TV screen at once, in different rooms?
A: Yes. Each screen is paired separately by scanning its own QR code, and each one can have its own font size, tile style, and theme.

Q: Will the board show item names or prices?
A: No. It only ever shows order numbers and, depending on the display style you choose, the table, item count, or how long an order has been waiting — nothing customers shouldn't see.

Q: Does an order stay on the board forever once it's ready?
A: No. It stays in Ready until it's marked as delivered (or the order is cancelled), at which point it disappears from the board.

Q: Do I need to keep refreshing the page to keep it up to date?
A: No — the board updates live on its own. Just avoid reloading the browser yourself, since that will make it ask to be paired again.
