For every role

One system, the whole team

Owner, administrator, waiter, cook and guest — each gets exactly the part of the system their job needs, and nothing that would get in the way.

Access is a decision, not a default

Every role in POSolid is a set of permissions you control. Nothing is granted because someone is standing at the till, and nothing is hidden behind a plan upgrade.

Permissions are set per role, then applied to everyone holding it
Each person signs in with their own PIN, on any shared device
Reports, margins and food cost are a permission like any other
Devices are approved separately, so a lost phone is one revocation
Every void and discount is recorded against the person who made it
Changing a role updates everyone in it at their next sign-in

Questions about roles and access

How many roles can I create?

As many as you need. Five are seeded when an organization is created — manager, staff manager, waiter, bartender and cook — and you can edit those or add your own.

Is access tied to the person or to the device?

To the person. Everyone signs in with their own PIN, so the same till gives a waiter and a manager different menus. Devices are approved separately, as a second gate.

Can I change what a role reaches after people are using it?

Yes. Permissions are held on the role, so a change applies to everyone holding it the next time they sign in — there is no per-person editing to do.

What can a role never be given?

Anyone's password or PIN. Both are stored hashed and cannot be displayed, only reset.

Do I have to use the roles you ship?

No. The seeded roles are a starting point that matches how most venues work; rename them, change their permissions or replace them entirely.
